A Virtual Phone System Helped Me Grow My Party Planning Business

A few months ago, I decided to take my love for decorating and planning to the next level by starting a home-based party planning business. Although things got off to a relatively slow start, a virtual phone system made a huge difference in the customer service I provided to my clients?and it made me more available to them when I needed them most.

Getting Started with a Landline

When I first started my party planning business, I decided to use my personal landline and mobile phone number as my main forms of communication to save money. After all, I had used the same telephone number for more than a decade and many of my first clients were friends and family members. Whether I answered the phone professionally or not did not matter at this point. While it worked well for the first few weeks, as my clientele began to grow, it quickly became evident that something would have to change.

The Trouble Begins

The real trouble with using my personal landline and mobile phone numbers for business purposes began when I started taking on business from people I did not personally know. The first time I realized there was a problem, I answered the telephone in my living room with a simple ?Hello? instead of a professional greeting, and the caller on the other end of the line simply hung up. I checked the caller ID and called back, explaining that the caller had indeed reached the business she had intended. The caller appeared to be a bit shocked as if she had hoped for a more professional greeting and seemed reluctant to discuss her party needs with me.

Making the Switch

After this unpleasant experience, I began researching the alternative communications systems that were available to me. I settled on a virtual phone system because it was inexpensive and provided a host of features that seemed geared directly to my business, such as information hotlines, the ability to forward my calls simply and easily, a toll free number and virtual toll free voicemail options. Switching was an incredibly simple process; there was no expensive installation and there was nothing complicated to learn. In fact, I found that using the virtual system was quite simple.

My Business Today

These days, when clients or customers call me for questions or to schedule an appointment, I can easily separate my business calls from my personal calls. Every business call is answered professionally, and those that I cannot answer are redirected either to my information hotline or my voicemail for a later callback. I can take my business number with me anywhere thanks to the call forwarding feature, and my clients and customers are truly satisfied with the service I provide to them. I can do what I love to do best without worrying about communication thanks to my virtual phone system.

The difference that the virtual phone system has made in my business is truly amazing. My clients can reach me at my toll-free number whether I am at home or on the go, and I am better able to manage my time and focus on what really matters?providing the best parties possible.
