FRAIL Baroness Thatcher faces an agonising wait to learn if she has cancer.
She had a tumour cut from her bladder after urgent surgery on Thursday.
Now medics will test it to see if it is cancerous. The 87-year-old former Prime Minister was said to have slept comfortably after the operation.
Daughter Carol, 59, has been by her bedside at an unnamed hospital and son Mark, 59, has been in ?close contact? over the phone.
Experts say laboratory results may not be back until after Christmas.
Cancer expert Malcolm Mason, professor of clinical oncology at Cardiff University, said: ?This growth is a tumour ? but there are two sorts. The best case is that it is a superficial tumour.?
The Baroness is expected to need several days of recuperation and it is feared she may have to spend Christmas in hospital.
The Iron Lady ? portrayed in a film of the name by Meryl Streep ? has become increasingly frail over the years. She was too ill to join the Queen for a special Diamond Jubilee lunch with former and serving PMs this summer.
But two months ago she was able to go out for lunch with Mark to celebrate her 87th birthday.
